West Virginia Writers Inc. is now accepting submissions for their annual writing contest, offering a total of $6,000 in prizes over 13 different categories for all ages of aspiring writer.

From January 2 through March 31, writers across the Mountain State are encouraged to submit their manuscripts in categories ranging from poetry and short fiction to nonfiction, stage plays and children's books.  

West Virginia Writers has held the contest every year since 1982, giving away over $105,000 in prizes. It is the largest writing competition in the state and is open to West Virginia residents as well as members of West Virginia Writers who make their homes elsewhere.

In addition to the adult contests, categories exist for students of different ages. Entries can be submitted for grades 1-5, 6-8 and 9-12.

The adult contests have an entry fee of $10; student contest entry is free. Winners will be announced at the West Virginia Writers annual conference on June 9, at the Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley.
