West Virginia has agreed to pay $1.75 million to be a primary sponsor of the 2012 Greenbrier Classic PGA golf tournament. Commerce Secretary Keith Burdette said Monday that the agreement matches that
Sponsorship provides the state with a luxury hospitality suite on the 18th hole, numerous tournament, concert and parking passes, guest rooms at the resort and other amenities.

An area business prepares to hire a 150 new workers.

Livingshield, an insurance service contract company setting up shop on Cumberland Road in Bluefield, said Thursday the company is looking to hire talented salespeople.

"We're looking for folks who are outgoing sales associates that want to go out and talk to the people or are willing to make phone calls. We're hoping to build a brand new call center on Cumberland Road that could employ people. We're looking for office staff, office managers, we're looking for regional managers in the state," said Jeff Livingston, Vice-President.

This announcement comes after a surprise decision by Kroger to close Bluefield Beverage and the store on Cumberland Road.

"With Bluefield Beverage leaving, even though it was in Bluefield, Virginia, physically...a lot of the people that worked there were in Mercer County. They'll hopefully be able to stay here with new jobs coming in, that support our taxes, our city. It's just vital," adds March Meachum, President of the Greater Bluefield Chamber of Commerce.

There are jobs out there, Meachum believes, for anyone willing to work. "Any mining company you talk to or company that does manufacturing is looking for people. They're starved for people. Welders, anybody with experience or willing to learn...there are plenty of opportunities."

On Thursday, Livingshield hosted an informational session at the Holiday on Claypool Hill.

Then, on February 15 at 6p.m., Livingshield will be in Beckley, at the Country Inn & Suites on Harper Road.
