A new study in the Lancet finds a patient's own cardiac stem cells can help repair muscle after a heart attack.

Researchers found heart attack patients who received their own stem cells saw their scar size cut in half.

The study authors say their findings go against conventional wisdom that once heart muscle is damaged, it cannot be restored.
