Do Antibiotics Really Help Sinus Infections?

As many as 20 percent of antibiotic prescriptions are for treating sinus infections.

But there's serious doubt now about whether they really work.

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that antibiotics do not clear up a sinus infection any better than a placebo does.

Researchers suggest treating symptoms instead, and allowing patients to get better on their own.
