A Forester with the West Virginia Division of Forestry being called a hero tonight.

Chris White with the Division of Forestry pulled a man from a blazing building several weeks ago, saving his life.

White's bravery was recognized today and Chief of the Athens Fire Department says White is truly a hero.

February 3 is a day Chris White will never forget.

Working with the West Virginia Division of Forestry for 12 years, White's training kick into gear.

Armed to battle the blaze, when White approached the scene the situation became even more heated.

"I saw a house was on fire and ran around looking for the guy outside thinking he might be trying to fight the fire," White said.

We didn't have much time to stand around and wait.

White acted on impulse and pulled the man from the blaze.

"That day was very special because I honestly do believe if it wasn't for Chris that man who have died in the blaze," Heather White, wife of Chris White said.

Heather White said she is so proud of her husband even though he is not enjoying the limelight.

"He's pretty embarrassed to get the award because he said he didn't do anybody else would do," White said.

Though this hero is humble at heart, Chief John Casey said White truly went above and beyond the call of duty.

"Somebody that is willing to risk their own life for someone they don't even know I think just speaks bounds about this person character," Chief of the Athens Fire Department John Casey said. "If it wasn't for Chris he would have died in that structure fire. I consider Chris to be a true hero for what he had done."

A true hero who just looks at himself like a regular guy.
