CHARLESTON -

Members of the WV National Guard gathered at the state capitol, Friday, armed with a lot their gear, as part of National Guard Day at the legislature.

Leaders with the National Guard say that even in the face of proposed defense budget cutbacks, Guard recruiting is still going strong.

"Right now, West Virginia leads the nation in recruiting and retention efforts," said Adjutant General James Hoyer. He admitted that could change with coming budget cuts.

Explosives teams, weapon and vehicles were on display until 2 p.m.
