CRAB ORCHARD -
A Raleigh County church hosted their annual blood drive Saturday afternoon, in honor of two members of their church.
Cornerstone Memorial Baptist Church teamed up with the American Red Cross for a blood drive..
The event was to honor Gary Utt and the late Rick Mayberry, both men were faithful donors.
By the halfway point of the drive, the church had already received 75 units of blood.
Organizers say giving blood is a selfless thing to do.
"If it was your dad or mother, you would give that blood," said organizer Karen Lilly. "But if you don't give it now, that blood won't be there if your family is sick. So it's very important that you get out and donate. You can donate every 56 days."
Their goal for today's blood drive was 170 units.
If you missed Saturday's blood drive at the church, they'll hold another one in late-June and in October.
