BECKELY -
With fallen power lines all over the area, they are not just a problem for home owners without power. These fallen lines are becoming obstacles for motorists on the move and are making roadways unsafe.
This wetter, heavier snow is causing trees and power lines to crumble leaving many in the dark, but for one local business these wilted power lines are creating another obstacle.
"We are trying to get a semi in here with a load of chemicals and he can't get passed this tree above us," said Water Plant Operator, Charley Richmond.
With only a narrow gap maneuvering a truck around these live line would be impossible and without this chemical the Beckley Water Plant would have to halt production at this location.
"It is very frustrating, I've been on the phone for several hour," Richmond said.
Richmond said they've even checked out the other end of the road and no luck. With an influx of people in Raleigh County without power this evening, homeowners are not the only ones frustrated by snapped power lines.
The fallen lines are becoming obstacles for motorists on the move and making road ways unsafe. EMTs with Jan Care found out the hard way.
Blocked by fallen power lines taking over the entire road, they had no choice but to turn around.
In a business where seconds can mean life or death detours are very risky according to John Parker an EMT with Jan Care.
"With the down power lines it delays our response time to people that are sick and we are actually picking up people to go to the hospital and the certain situation right here is that we are stuck so it really delays the time," Parker said.
Luckily no one was in the ambulance.
But with an influx of snow-related emergency calls, Parker said a detour can make all the difference.
