LEWISBURG -
Tying the snow boots and fastening the snow gloves have not been common joys for children in our region this winter.
But after Sunday's winter storm dropped around eight inches of snow in Greenbrier County, kids jumped on the opportunity to be snow bunnies for the evening.
"We like to sleigh ride and play in the snow a lot and we've been waiting for a big snow like this," said sixth grader McKenzie Jack.
Up until Sunday's quick snowfall coated the area, most of the winter has been disappointing for kids.
"It was boring because it was raining a lot and it was really cold outside, but there was no snow, so we couldn't do anything," said seventh grader Nethaniel Patton.
Some kids began to give up on the idea of having a winter wonderland this year.
"We haven't had a big snow yet, so it's surprising since it's almost spring," said Jack.
It didn't take long for kids to rekindle their love of snow.
After just two hours of snowfall, two seventh graders built the life-size snowman they've been hoping to see all winter long.
But it isn't just the snowman they've been waiting for.
"Sled, snowboard, ski, just build stuff," said seventh grader Keegan Nanney.
While some are most excited to play in the snow, others are excited for the possibility to sleep in late.
"Getting out of school," said second grader Abby Dilly.
When the snow stopped falling late Sunday night, kids woke up to snow covered hills, perfect for sleigh riding.
Even if the snow melts fast and clears the roads to get to school, kids got to have their one day of snow fun.
Who knows, it might not be the last.
