The quick thinking from a nearby volunteer fire fighter helps save a neighbor's house and possibly his life.
Around 3:00 p.m. Monday afternoon fire crews from Ansted and Nutall Fire Departments were called out to the scene of a structure fire on Log Town Road in Fayette County.
Upon arrival, one of Ansted's volunteer fire fighters lived near the home and put out the blaze using a garden hose. Ansted Fire Chief, Joe Crist, attributes this act from the fire fighter the key to not letting the blaze do anymore damage than it could.
According to fire fighters the home owner tried to ignite a fire for heat in his home using kerosene which caused the blaze.
The homeowner suffered first degree burns and was treated at the scene.
Fire fighters continued to cleanup the damage left behind and checked for any spreading of the fire.
Fire Chief Crist said the fire did scorch the kitchen and utility room. He estimates a lot of heat and smoke damage done to the property.
