FAIRLEA -
Energy Express in Greenbrier County is preparing for another summer filled with reading enrichment and noncompetitive recreational activities for children entering first through fifth grades.
Energy Express is a six week summer reading program to help children, "develop a love for reading and have a safe place to be in the summer," said Kay Davis with the West Virginia University Extension Service in Fairlea.
Davis said the program is seeking mentors for eight weeks during the summer, beginning June 7.
"The children develop relationships with the mentors and have plenty of time for reading," said Davis.
Mentor positions are not specific to college-aged students, but all mentors must be at least 18 years old and must complete a community service project, make family visits, and eat with the children throughout the eight week program.
The program is also seeking adult-age coordinators to participate in other activities with the children and to oversee the mentors.
The summer program will be held at Western Greenbrier, Ronceverte, Frankford, White Sulphur Springs, and Alderson from June 7 to July 27.
All interested applicants need to apply online at www.energyexpress.wvu.edu.

The selection process for mentors and coordinators begins March 1.
