'Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern' Visits West Virginia

People who watch "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern" on the Travel Channel soon will find out West Virginia has some of the best food nature has to offer.

Zimmern and a crew spent last summer filming activities from deer hunting and river rafting to a road kill cook off and ground hog hunting.

That episode will air next Monday, Feb. 27 at 9 p.m.

One story features Zimmern hunting ground hogs with Glen Hawkins, and his son Dale, in Upshur County.

"He's enamored with West Virginia," said Dale Hawkins, of Fish Hawk Acres. "This is his second time filming in West Virginia. He truly enjoyed every bit of it. Everything from the hunt, the dressing of it to the eating of it, we sat down and enjoyed it all together."

Hawkins said Zimmern will try two dishes woodchuck cacciatore and woodchuck burgoo. Chef Tim Urbanic provided the burgoo, named after the community near Webster Springs in Webster County.

Zimmern will try pickled ramps and, of course ground hog sausage.
