LEWISBURG -

If you live near Lewisburg and have passed the entrance to get on Interstate-64, chances are you have noticed the black Emergency Detour signs.

The West Virginia Turnpike placed the signs by the entrance and exit ramps of I-64 in Lewisburg just a few weeks ago.

Mike Myers works for the turnpike and said the signs are meant to notify traffic of an alternate route in case the turnpike has to be closed for any reason.

Myers said the signs are placed along routes that can be used as alternatives to using the interstate if it ever had to temporarily shut down.
