BECKLEY -

UPDATE:

Mayor Pugh has issued the following statement in regard to the ethics complaint:

"I look forward to the opportunity to present my side of the story and we'll have to wait and see what happens."

ORIGINAL STORY:

The state Probable Cause Review Board of the West Virginia Ethics Commission says it has found reason to believe that Beckley Mayor Emmett Pugh has violated multiple provisions of the West Virginia Ethics Act.

According to a press release issued Tuesday afternoon, the board said there are 9 counts against the mayor, accusing him of using his position for financial gain.

The ethics charges stem from alleged business deals between Pugh and local businessmen Woody Duba and Roy Shrewsbury. An independent hearing examiner will be appointed to determine the validity of these charges.

The hearing date has not been set yet.
