BECKELY -

An amber alert remains in effect.

With the help of that technology, law enforcement officials are able to get the message out FAST about a missing child.

It is a parents worst nightmare...your child, taken,

As the search is on for one 8-year old Mercer County girl, officials said it is important to alert the masses with the most updated information.

One of these ways is through an Amber Alert.

"It is very important to get that information out there and we did. we have a lot of people out there saying well I will be out that way so I will keep my eye open and be looking for that vehicle," Sgt. M.D. Clemons Crimes Against Children Unit said.

Amber Alerts are used to dispense descriptions of children who officials believe have been taken and are in danger and now you can get these alerts directly to your cell phone

"There are millions of phone users and to be able to have millions of eyes looking for children or missing people that is huge and that is something everyone should sign up for. It could be very helpful and save someone's life," AT&T Store Manager Brandon Jenkins said.

Signing up for the amber alerts is free and takes only a  few seconds.

First--send a text message to 2-6-2-3-7, in the body of the text type the word AMBER along with the zip code of the area you would like to receive alerts.

Police said technology is helping with cases like this.

"If you can reach each and everyone of those people it just makes it a whole lot easier to locate your subject," Captain Jeff Shumate Beckley Fire Department said.
