Lewisburg Gets In Chocolate Frame of Mind

LEWISBURG -

Chocolate may not be near the top of the food pyramid, but if you visit Lewisburg on Saturday, the sweet treat may be the only thing you want to eat.

Lewisburg's sixth annual chocolate tasting begins Saturday morning with nearly 30,000 tastings.

The town got in the chocolate frame of mind Friday night at Greenbrier Valley Theatre with demonstrations from Greenbrier Executive Chef Rich Rosendale.

He said it is easy to get excited about a festival that revolves around chocolate.

"I think it's an opportunity for everybody to kind of let that kid inside of them come out. For example, tonight one of the items I'm going to do is inspired by my little boy, Lawrence and it's some chocolate pudding and we're going to make it in front of the crowd. We're going to make some chocolate pudding pops," said Rosendale.

The Greenbrier Episcopal School was thinking outside of the box with their mini ice cream cone cupcakes.

"Well the idea of the chocolate festival is to get a little tasting of multiple kinds of chocolate. We figured this would be child friendly, easy to transport and easy to taste," said Heather Rose, representing GES.

The Stone House General Store has 1,500 samples of three different goodies.

"We have our signature sheet cake. We also have brownies and we also have Oreo balls that we're going to be offering," said Rebecca Black, owner of Stone House General Store.

The festival also offers free events such as chef demonstrations, a bake-off and even a mousse eating contest.

And the best part is, it is all chocolate.

"There's everything chocolate. Martinis, chocolate mousses, chocolate pies," said Jim Morgan with the General Lewis Inn.

Lewisburg's chocolate paradise is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth.

A limited number of tickets will be available to purchase Saturday morning, but the chocolate bake-off offers samples for cash incase you don't have tickets.

The tastings start Saturday at 11 a.m. and end at 4 p.m.
