FIRST ON 59: Suspect in Custody, Porshia Atwell Safe

Troopers with the State Police said Tracey Atwell was captured while traveling along WV 5 near the intersection of Nubbins Ridge Road and Egeria Road in Mercer County at approximately 4:45p.m. on Saturday.

State Police said the suspect was driving the white Jeep, stolen from his parents residence two days prior.

Also in the vehicle was the suspect's daughter Porshia Atwell, 8, who was kidnapped by her father.

Porshia Atwell was safely recovered and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The recovery of Porsche Atwell and capture of the suspect ends and extensive two-day manhunt, troopers said.

Porsche Atwell is presently receiving medical treatment at an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Atwell is facing charges of murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, concealment of a child, and Grand Larceny.


Emergency dispatchers said Tracey Atwell is in police custody as of 5:15p.m., on Saturday.

The Amber Alert for Porshia Atwell, 8, is no longer in effect. State police said Saturday she is safe.

State Police will host a press conference at 7p.m. at their headquarters in Beckley this evening.
