RALEIGH COUNTY -

Buddhist monk, Wongdue Sangpo, came to Beckley all the way from Nepal to create a sand mandala by himself.

The mandala features elaborate geometric designs using colored sand, which the monk actually colored himself.

It typically takes one day for 12 monks to create this piece of art, but Sangpo will make it himself in 7 days.

What is even more unique about this artwork, is that after it is completed, it is destroyed.

The materials are released back into nature and never used more than once.

The message of the sand mandala is that all living beings want to be happy, and for that they need inner peace.

The art work will be displayed at the Cynthia Bickey Art Gallery until Saturday.
