Monday, April 16, marks the 5th anniversary of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history where 32 people died at the hands of a gunman on the Virginia Tech campus.
Each anniversary since the 2007 shooting on the Virginia Tech community comes together to honor the 32 lost lives.
Classes have been suspended for the day in memory of the students and faculty killed in the rampage by a lone gunman who then killed himself.
But on this 5th anniversary classes will resume as normal.
Provost Mark McNamee said the return to classes reflects the lives of those slain.
The day will be remembered in other ways on the Blacksburg campus, in Washington and by alumni across the country.
Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has issued a proclamation recognizing April 16 as Virginia Tech Remembrance Day.
