Bright blue pinwheels are scattered about Fayetteville in hopes of bringing attention to child abuse for the month of April.

The General Federation of Woman's Club in Fayetteville placed pinwheels in four gardens throughout the town.

For organizers like, Jennifer Salvatore the idea behind the pinwheels is to raise awareness of child abuse and neglect not just all across the country, but also here at home.

Salvatore, who is a mother of two, said hearing the news of abuse here and throughout the country is often heart breaking, "if we can help one child it's worth it."

County Commissioner, Denise Eskew Scalph, said it was important for her to be present for the afternoon event, "I think it's important for people to come together as a community to supports groups like this.

Fayette County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Mauzy and others gathered on the Fayette County Courthouse steps to take time out on Monday to talk about the issue of child abuse.

Mauzy said child abuse is prevalent in the community, "If you see suspected child abuse and if you think something is wrong then I think every adult has a responsibility to the children in the community to tell somebody."

To report suspected abuse or neglect of a child in the state of West Virginia, concerned citizens can call 1-800-352-6513.
