CHARLESTON -

The West Virginia Oil Marketers and Grocers Association (OMEGA) kicked off a statewide campaign Monday, April 16, to raise funds and awareness for the children and families cared for by the Children's Home Society of West Virginia.

From Monday until Mother's Day, May 13, nearly 500 OMEGA partner stores will be selling brightly colored, Mother's Day-themed paper flowers for $1 each. Proceeds from the sales will go to support child assistance programs such as emergency child shelters, foster care, adoption, mentoring and numerous other family support programs across the state.

OMEGA, which represents convenience stores, independent grocers and petroleum marketers in West Virginia, has a history of raising funds to help West Virginia children, having raised $61,000 in 2011 and more than $1.3 million since 2003.

"We are asking the public to consider honoring their mother, sister or friends by supporting an organization that works to help children in distress," said OMEGA President Jan Vineyard. "I would encourage individuals who see the campaign in their local convenience or grocery stores to join us in assisting West Virginia Children."

Participating OMEGA members include Little General Stores, One Stop, BFS Foods and R.T. Rogers Oil Company, among others.
