Mercer County Retirement Home Under Quarantine

One Mercer County retirement home is on its second day of being under quarantine.

Workers with the GlenWood Park Retirement said they have been placed under quarantine due to a norovirus that is effecting staff and residents.

According to the Center for Disease Control's web site a "norovirus spread easily, causing more than 20 million gastroenteritis cases each year in the U.S. There's no vaccine to prevent norovirus infection and no drug to treat it."

The CDC encourages folks to wash their hands often and they says this virus is simply known as a stomach bug.

For folks withed loved ones in the retirement home can call 304-425-8128 for updates. Workers said all residents and staff must be symptom free for 48 hours before the quarantine is lifted.
