Chesapeake says it didn't foul WV couple's well

Posted: Updated:

CAMERON, W.Va. (AP) — Chesapeake Appalachia LLC is denying a Northern Panhandle couple's claims that its natural gas drilling operations contaminated their well water.

Jeremiah and Andrea Magers of Cameron sued the company in March. Their lawsuit claims they began noticing methane in their well water and nearby Fish Creek after Chesapeake began drilling wells nearby.

Attorneys for Chesapeake say in a response to the lawsuit that any possible damage or injuries were caused by others over whom the company has no control. The response also says methane in the water doesn't constitute a hazard.

The couple originally filed the lawsuit in Marshall County Circuit Court. It later was moved to U.S. District Court.
