FAYETTEVILLE -

Extreme sports are a big part of southern West Virginia's tourist trade, and one local outfitter aims to put the area on the global map.

Officials at ACE Adventure Resort announced plans to break the Guinness World Record for zip-lining.  They hope to send more than 150 zippers along one segment of their mile-long zip-line course in less than an hour.  The date set for the attempt is June 3.

The previous record was set by a German outfitter on May 2, 2010.  They sent 122 people along a rope slide.

The event is also a chance for ACE to celebrate the extention of the of the resort's zip-line course in 2011.  The changes included the addition of a 250 foot sky bridge, a 55 foot viewing tower and more than 800 feed of zip-line.

"Because we are one of the nation's top adventure parks," said ACE Marketing Director, Beth Gill. "We attract outdoor enthusiasts from across the country. I'm confident the response to our challenge will be very positive, and we'll be able to reach our goal of 150 zippers to bring this record to the USA."

Gill said buses will be available to shuttle participants and spectators to an observation area along the course.  A live video-feed will also stream the event to the resort's web site.

A countdown to the record attempt, as well as details on how to plan a trip or participate are available at ACE Adventure Resort's web site.
