LEWISBURG -

U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall announced on Tuesday, April 17 that the Greenbrier Valley Theatre will receive a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

The $10,000 award will go to support enriching theatre performances in southern West Virginia through the production of "The Crucible" by Arthur Miller.  The show will have accompanying educational outreach activities and event.

"Local arts, and especially the magic of live theatre performances, stir not only the passions of their patrons, but they enhance a community's progress and ability to attract growth," said Rahall.  "This federal seed funding helps broaden Greenbrier Valley Theatre outreach.  The performances I have enjoyed there have always been topnotch entertainment, with thoughtful tones and messages interspersed for us all."

The mission of the Greenbrier Repertory Theatre Company which performs in Lewisburg is to create live, professional theatre in West Virginia, enlightening and enriching the Greenbrier County community with creative productions that stimulate a connection between art and life.

The NEA grant is one of 49 awards made to state arts agencies and six regional arts organization in the U.S. in fiscal year 2012.  Grants from the NEA generate, on average, eight dollar from non-federal sources for each dollar awarded.
