Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital is stepping out of the 1950's into the 21st Century with the new renovations set to be made.
Thursday afternoon a groundbreaking ceremony was held to kick of the hospital transformation with the use of seven million dollars for the renovation project.
Beckley Mayor Emmett Pugh considers the city as a medical hub for Southern West Virginia, "It's been here this whole time and there haven't been many updates to the hospital."
BAR-H will have a new outside facade, upgrades to its heat and cooling system, and 4th floor renovations.
The new outside facade will include new insulated windows and new insulated metal panel exterior. HVAC upgrades will be to eliminate remaining window units and replace them with above ceiling fan coils and centralized air handler. Fourth floor renovations are to be made to add 19 private rooms with full baths and state-of-the-art equipment.
The CEO of BAR-H, Rocco Massey, outlined the project and told the crowd of more than 100, "we have the people, we have the place, and now we have the project."
Charlie Houck is the Campaign Chairman for the project. "The significant portion of the funds required to do renovations is already available."
Houck said making these changes were essential, "how important is healthcare to our community? It's so important!"
The President and CEO Appalachian Regional Healthcare, Jerry Haynes, couldn't agree more, "I think it's just going to give us a better hospital and better environment for or nurses and doctors and other employees to take care of our patients."
Work for the renovation project will start in less than two months.
