Students from across West Virginia will converge on Athens this weekend, as Concord University is set to host the 38th annual West Virginia State Mathematics Field Day.

Students in grades 4-12 from schools in each of the 8 Regional Educational Service Areas (RESA) will be in attendance to test their computational command. Each service area will send three students from grades 4-9 and 10 students from grades 10-12.

An awards ceremony is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in the Alexander Fine Arts Center on Concord's Athens campus. The even is sponsored in part by the NASA West Virginia Space Grand Consortium and the West Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

In conjunction with the competition, Concord invites everyone to attend a Science Open House on Saturday. The open house will feature demonstrations and activities in astronomy, chemistry, geology, biology and physics, all designed for K-12 students, teachers and parents.

The open house will take place from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the Science Building.
