On Sunday, the Raleigh County hosted its first ever Earth Day celebration to showcase Beckley's best in green energy.

The fair was held at the YMCA Paul Cline Youth Complex in Beckley.

From Cow Chip Bingo to a 10K race, organizer Sherrie Hunter said it is all about having fun and learning to be a better steward of the environment.

"This is a day for us to pay attention to our surroundings and find out what we can do to provide a greener world. We thought the best way to do that would be to have a chilly Earth Day celebration," said Hunter.

The money raised at Beckley's Earth Day will go to benefit the Children's Miracle Network in Morgantown, an organization Hunter said will give a child in need a chance at a life otherwise out of reach.

"When you have a child and that child is sick, you know the protocols at the hospital can get down to the bottom. This encourages them and helps them reach their goals in life, and that's a good thing.

The Children's Miracle Network at West Virginia University Children's Hospital in Morgantown is supported by Sam's Warehouse, a primary sponsor of the event.
