CHARLESTON -

A dozen projects were granted funding Monday morning during a meeting of the West Virginia School Building Authority, and four of the grants are without any local funds.

In both Marshall and Hardy counties -- $250,000 for renovations at John Marshall High School and $250,000 for renovations to East Hardy High School and a new Moorefield High School -- are contingent upon passage of local bonds.

Lewis and Gilmer counties are the recipients of $9,676,800 with no matching local funds to be used for a new combined elementary school stretching across both north-central counties.

The final county without matching funds, Cabell, was given $500,000 for a new middle school to replace Beverly Hills and Enslow middle schools.

Morgan County already has more than $2 billion in Qualified Zone Academy Bonds, or QZAB, and the School Building Authority allocated $2.2 million for renovations at Berkeley Springs High School.

Funds for HVAC work were requested to both Wirt and Clay counties. The SBA allocated $1,400,000 for Wirt County Primary and Middle School and $1,650,000 for Clay County Middle School.

A new Logan elementary topped the SBA's list. That project received a $9 million grant. Consolidation in Wyoming County netted $6,414,580 for a consolidated elementary and middle school.

A new West Preston Middle School project in Preston County was given $4 million.

Renovations at Hillsboro Elementary School in Pocahontas County were given $1,339,061, and renovations at Philip Barbour High School in Barbour County were given $1,402,305.

Counties make funding requests to the SBA every year. Matching funds are not required to receive SBA funds, but each county's proposed facility plan should address the history of county board of education efforts for levies and bonds for capital improvements.
