Four schools in Fayette County closed Monday after Sunday night's snow storm knocked out power in some parts of the area.

Nuttall Middle School, Midland-Trail High School, and Fayetteville High School were closed on Monday because of power outages.

The students were sent home after arriving early Monday morning to discover the schools were without power.

The decision to close Collins Middle School was made late Sunday night when the school's furnace shut-down.

Administrators said the school is in the process of replacing the system and installing new lights.

"There is a lot to consider, but how it affects students comes first. We work to make sure it's the best possible learning environment for the children," said Gary Hough, Director of Transportation.

Hough expects the four schools to be back in session, but stresses that nothing has been decided at this point.
