Posted: Updated:

The West Virginia School Building Authority is providing $9.6 million to Gilmer and Lewis counties to help pay for construction of the state's first inter-county elementary school.

The school will consolidate two existing schools in the counties that are in poor condition.

Media outlets report that the authority awarded a total $37 million for school construction and repairs on Monday to 12 counties.

The grants include $1.3 million to Pocahontas County, $9 million to Logan County, $4 million to Preston County, $1.4 million to Barbour County, $2.2 million to Morgan County, $1.4 million to Wirt County and $1.6 million to Clay County.

Executive director Mark Manchin says the authority funded projects that were the highest priority for keeping students in safe schools.
