Rainelle Mayor Andrea J. Pendleton invites people of all ages from all over to join her in her traditional springtime walk.

Registration opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, at Rainelle Town Hall.

The walkers will be driven to the foot of Airport Road and begin walking at 10 a.m.

The walk concludes fourteen miles later at Sam Black Church in Crawley.

The scenic walk route goes through some of Greenbrier County's most scenic areas.

The route includes areas with challenging uphill climbs and places with slightly rolling terrain.

Rainelle has worked on improving sidewalks in recent years.

A paved walking path circles around Tenth Street Park.

Work on the proposed Golf Course walking path is expected to begin this summer, with further funding required for completion.

And the Town has applied for "Safe Walk to School" funding to enhance safety around the new Rainelle Elementary School.

The Mayor's Walk has no registration fee, no race timing, no competition.

"Just bring your peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a bottle of water and come on," Pendleton urged.

She said that the walking group would relax about half way for "lunch on a log."

Rides are being arranged to pick up walkers who find the distance too far and to bring all walkers back from Sam Black Church to Rainelle Town Hall.
