LEWISBURG -
Blue and silver pinwheels cover the front yard of the Greenbrier County Courthouse in support of child abuse awareness month.
Exactly 165 pinwheels are spinning in front of the courthouse to remind citizens to stand up against child abuse.
Each pinwheel represents five children who have been served in the area for child abuse situations.
The Davis Stuart home, court appointed special advocates, child and youth advocacy center, and the children's home society serve abused children in Greenbrier County.
"Obviously a big issue in our community, as so many children have been helped through these organizations. It's not something that people hear about on a daily basis, but it's definitely a sad issue that needs to be addressed," said Mary McLaughlin with the children's home society.
To wrap up child abuse awareness month, Greenbrier County will be celebrating children's memorial flag day this Friday at the courthouse.
Child abuse advocates will be honored and children from a local elementary school will come to sing.
