Firefighters Rally for Fire Levy Support

Posted: Updated:

They are the first on the scene when homes go up in smoke.

When others are running out, volunteer firefighters are running in, risking their lives to save others.

Today, they're asking for your support for a proposed fire levy in Raleigh County. It would amount to a mere couple dollars a week for the average homeowner, but would be huge in helping volunteer fire departments update aging equipment and ensure their long-term presence in communities.

"Stuff wears out. These guys are putting their life on the line using old, outdated, and antiquated equipment. They are putting their life on the line to save you. We have to give them the best possible chance to help you," said Capt. Kevin Price, Beckley's Fire Marshall.

Early voting began Wednesday for the fire levy and will continue until Election Day, May 8.
