WEST LIBERTY -

The following is a press release from Concord University:

The Concord baseball team split its doubleheader at West Liberty Wednesday afternoon.

The Mountain Lions spotted the Hilltoppers a 7-0 lead in the first game, came back to tie it in the top of the 7th, then gave up the winning run in the bottom of the inning in an 8-7 defeat.

In the second game, CU pounded out 19 hits and rolled to a 16-7 victory.

On the day, sophomore outfielder Zach Cloxton (formerly of Nitro HS) went 4-6 with two home runs (including a pinch-hit three-run shot in the top of the 6th of the first game), five RBIs, four runs scored and a stolen base.

The split greatly enhanced Concord's chances of qualifying for next month's WVIAC Tournament.  The Mountain Lions are 21-26, 17-15 and in 3rd place in the WVIAC Northern Division.
