Students of Richlands High Campaign Not to Drink and Drive

Posted: Updated:

Prom is quickly approaching and those at Richlands High School are preparing to drive home the message to their students to not be tempted to get behind the wheel after a celebratory drink.

Prom week at Richlands High School will take place from April 30th to May 5th.  There are numerous activities scheduled for prom week. Video clips from tragic accidents will be shown to give students the reality of their consequences.  Letters are going to be shared to high school students from elementary students who are urging them not to drink and drive. Also there will be an opportunity for students to sign the prom promise to make a pledge not to consume alcohol or get behind the wheel.

Rick Blevins is an EMT and teacher at Richlands High School and for him it's important to get students especially juniors and seniors to understand, "death rides with a drunk driver."

Finally at Richlands High School a live re-enactments of a car crash, graveside rites, and court scene will be acted out in front of the student body. Area emergency services will participate in the re-enactment. Richlands Fire Department, Richlands Rescue Squad, and the Richlands Police Department will assist in the scenarios. The mock accident will take place on May 4th from 1:30 p.m. until 3:10 p.m. at the Ernie Hicks Stadium.
