ATHENS -

Bonner Scholars at Concord University are raising awareness about hunger and homelessness in April.

Starting on Friday, April 27 at 8 a.m. students put up boxes on the Bonner House lawn, creating a box city.  The students will live in the boxes until Saturday morning.

"Box City helps to raise awareness for the issue of homelessness and serves as a fundraiser for Scottie's Place, a wilderness camp for homeless children located near Peterstown, W.Va.," said Bonner coordinator Shardé Hardy.  "For this event, campus organization or groups of students are asked to team together and spend 24 hours living in a box."

Hardy said students or groups joined together for the event.  Boxes were provided with a minimum $20 donation to Scottie's Place.  One individual from each group is required to be in the box at all times.  Individuals were encouraged to take shifts to accommodate people's schedules.

More information on the Hunger and Homeless Awareness activities are available at 304-384-6080 or shardy@concord.edu.
