Mercer County Honors Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is Child abuse prevention month and according to child protective services over 400 children in Mercer County are in foster care.

To honor the month, people gathered at the Mercer County Court House in Princeton to fly a flag in reflection for all youth in turmoil.

"We're focusing on children who we lost. Children we lost to violence. Children we lost to drugs all those sort of preventable causes and threats that are out there for our children we just want to heightened awareness. We need to me more vigilant and more alert and more Dedicated to keeping our children safe," Joanne Boileau of the Children's Home Society said.

Boileau hopes this event will make people aware about the problems impacting our youth in Southern West Virginia.
