Smoke was still smoldering from a house in Raleigh County which caught fire late Thursday night.

A broken fire hydrant caused four volunteer fire departments to respond to help assist one another to put out the blaze on Robinson Street in Glen White.

Crews were called out on the scene before midnight Thursday night. The homeowners did make it out safely, but their pets weren't so lucky.

For neighbors the out of service fire hydrant is the real problem for the community and in this particular situation, "They want us to pass a fire levy, but we want to make sure are stuff is working," said Ernest Anderson who lives on Robinson Street.

Anderson and others who live in the neighborhood said the fire hydrant has been broken since August and they've contacted the fire and water departments about the hydrant and their concerns.

Raleigh County emergency dispatchers reported a couple of firefighters were injured while fighting the blaze. No word on their conditions at this time.
