Groundbreaking slated for Lewis County Judicial Annex

Posted: Updated:

A new courthouse could mean much anticipated relief for some Lewis County courthouse officials scrounging for space in the current structure.

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Lewis County Judicial Annex is set for 11 a.m. May 2. The new structure will be located behind the existing courthouse in Weston.

"This has been needed for some time for the overcrowded and lack of space in here," said Lewis County Circuit Clerk John B. Hinzman. "It's been a problem for a long time so we're looking forward to it being built and completed."

According to West Virginia Supreme Court officials, courthouse staff could be moving in to the annex in two years.

The annex will house a courtroom, the circuit clerk's office, magistrate's office and the probation and family court judges' chambers.

Hinzman said the county clerk and the assessor will stay in the old courthouse.
