Sen. Rockefeller to Hold Roundtable in Ghent

GHENT -

U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va) will make a stop in southern West Virginia on Wednesday, May 2.

Rockefeller will be holding a roundtable discussion starting at 10 a.m. at the Ghent Volunteer Fire Department.  The senator is looking to hear from first responders about what they need when it comes to communications.  As chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Rockefeller authored legislation to create a nationwide, interoperable wireless communication network for emergency officials to use during floods, fires, accidents and other incidents.  That bill was signed into law in February.

The Senator wanted to spend some time listening to first responders in southern West Virginia about the current communication networks and those planned for the future.  Specifically he wants to learn what is needed to prepare the area for the thousands of visitors expected to arrive as a result of the Summit Bechtel Family Boy Scout Reserve in Fayette County.
