Concord Symphonic Band to Perform Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

The Concord University Symphonic Band will take center stage in Athens on the night of Wednesday, May 2, as it gathers to perform their annual spring concert.

Titled "Music from Another Time and Place," this spring's concert lineup features music from faraway lands and earlier historical periods than the band typically plays. Band Director Dr. Laura Zamzow says that the material this year is also more difficult than the band has previously taken on, but she's confident that they have the skills to pull it off.

"I knew I had a well-balanced group," said Dr. Zamzow. "I wanted to challenge them."

The performance will feature many different selections, including the score from "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," and an original work called "Through a Looking Glass," which was written specifically for the band by Concord senior Aaron Chamberlin.

The concert will take place at 7 p.m. in the main auditorium of the Alexander Fine Arts Center at 1000 Vermillion Street in Athens. It is free to attend and open to the public.
