A Former Raleigh County Police Officer Files Suit Against City

A former Sophia police officer who was allegedly fired for skipping out on his tab at Applebee's wants his day in court.

Damon McDowell was fired only after six months with the Sophia Police Department.

During his time on the force he said he was racially harassed and falsely accused of wrongdoing by his chief and fellow officers throughout his employment.

Sophia Police Chief Tomi Peck fired McDowell in March, saying he was suspected of leaving a restaurant without paying.

McDowell's attorney's Maria Hughes and Mark Goldner decline to comment at this time on the complaint.
