The city of Bluefield curbside recycling program reached the 600 ton mark in total recyclables collected on April 3, 2012. It took six months to collect the 600 ton.

The program is averaging 16 tons a month and continues to steadily grow in both the business and residential sectors.

The addition of mixed paper to items collected for recycling has been the biggest factor in the growth. Mixed paper includes; copy paper, shredded paper, notebook paper, magazines, glossy paper, photographs, brochures, paper bags, and books. Even hard cover books can be recycled by the city.

Other items still being recycled include; newspaper, cardboard, aluminum cans, plastic containers, plastic store bags, and clean tin cans.

The following items aren't being recycled at this time; Styrofoam, glass, shrink wrap, bubble wrap, product packaging, gift wrap, candy wrappers, foil and pie crust pans.

New residential and business recycles are welcome to participate in the curbside recycling program. For more information call 304-327-2456.
