The first week of May kept right on pace with patents in April and was as active as ever with a total of 5,520 new patents. Two inventors, Lowell L. Wood, Jr. and Roderick A. Hyde, made it onto the top ten list again this week, and the inventor with the most patents, Kevin Roy Sudgen, received an impressive 12 patents.

Even though International Business Machines Corporation once again topped the Assignees list, there were some notable changes. The most note-worthy were the two newcomers Broadcom Corporations and Apple Inc., which marked its first appearance on the top ten list this year. The categories list was dominated by Physics this week - 5 of the 10 slots to be exact. It should come as no surprise that Physics - Computing; Calculating; Counting took the top spot on this week.
