Concord Women's Basketball Schedule Released

ATHENS -

The following is a press release from Concord University:

Coming off the winningest season in program history, the Concord women's basketball team will be tested immediately when its new campaign begins.

The Lady Lions begin their 2012-13 schedule with a November 9 matchup against nationally-ranked Indiana University of Pennsylvania at the two-day WVIAC-PSAC Challenge in Fairmont, WV.

The CU-IUP matchup is part of the two-day WVIAC-PSAC Challenge in Fairmont, WV. The Lady Lions will play Clarion University (PA) on Saturday, November 10.

Concord went 23-6 last season, setting school records for wins, conference victories (18) and highest WVIAC finish (2nd place). The Lady Lions lose four seniors from that team, including center Jolysa Brown, who became CU's first-ever Daktronics Division NCAA Division II All-American.

CU head coach Kenny Osborne announced his team's 2012-13 schedule on Monday.

It starts with IUP, which loses just two seniors from a squad that went 23-7 last season and reached the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region tournament. On top of that, the Crimson Hawks will be battle-tested by the time they face Concord – IUP is scheduled to play Division I powerhouse Connecticut in an exhibition game on November 2.

Concord will play 28 games during the regular season – two more than usual – because the WVIAC-PSAC Challenge is considered an "exempt tournament." Teams are allowed to play in an "exempt tournament" once every three seasons.

The Lady Lions' home opener is Wednesday, November 14, when WVU Tech comes to Athens for a non-conference contest at 5:30 pm.

Concord will play three other non-conference games, all in the fall semester and all at home: UVA-Wise on November 27, Virginia Intermont on December 3 and Lincoln Memorial University (TN) on December 6.

Concord begins its WVIAC schedule by hosting Pitt-Johnstown at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 17.

The Lady Lions will play three more conference games before the semester break, all on the road. CU goes to Alderson-Broaddus on November 20 and West Virginia State on November 29, and visits defending WVIAC champion West Virginia Wesleyan on December 8.

Concord then gets 25 days off before returning to the court for a matchup with WVIAC rival Charleston on Thursday, January 3. That starts a stretch of 18 conference games in 51 days to close the regular season.

Four of CU's last five games will be at home, ending with a clash against Bluefield State on Saturday, February 23.

In the 15-team WVIAC's unbalanced schedule, Concord will play home-and-home series against eight opponents: Alderson-Broaddus, Bluefield State, Charleston, Davis & Elkins, Glenville State, Ohio Valley, West Virginia State and West Virginia Wesleyan.

CU plays single games against six teams: Pitt-Johnstown, Fairmont State and West Liberty at home, and Seton Hill, Wheeling Jesuit and Shepherd on the road.

The annual WVIAC Tournament begins with first-round games on Monday, February 25 and continues through the championship game on Saturday, March
