Mercer Board Says PikeView Graduation can be at Church

PRINCETON (AP) -

The Mercer County Board of Education says PikeView High School can hold its graduation ceremony at a church.

Media outlets report that the board voted Thursday to keep the school's graduation ceremony at the Princeton Church of God. The location originally was approved in October 2011.

Americans United for Separation of Church and State sent a letter to the board April 27 asking it to move graduation ceremonies at the church to a secular setting.

Schools Superintendent Deborah Akers says PikeView's auditorium doesn't have enough seating, and the gymnasium has poor visibility, accessibility and sound.
