SOPHIA -

Raleigh County Animal Rescue teamed up withe the Town of Sophia to hold a two day festival that focuses on pets.

"Compassion for Pets Fest" began on Friday, May 4 at 10 a.m.  The goal is to bring awareness of the need to spay and neuter pets, end animal abuse and find homes for homeless pets in the community.

The event includes a huge yard sale, door prizes, baked goods and food provided by the Sophia Volunteer Fire Department.  The firefighters are serving up Hot Dogs, BBQ and drinks.  Starting at noon on Saturday, there will be a dog show.  Trophies will be awarded for Best Dressed, Most Obedient, Best Smoocher and Best Trick.  There is a $5 entry fee for each.

Raleigh County Animal Rescue (RCAR) is an all-volunteer, no-kill rescue organization that takes in homeless, abused and abandoned pets.  The organization has pets spayed or neutered, vaccinated and given medical care, then fosters them until permanent homes can be found.
