ATHENS -
Concord University's
graduating class of spring 2012 are dusting off their mortarboards and getting
frames ready for diplomas, as Concord's
spring commencement ceremony has been scheduled for Saturday, May 12.
Two ceremonies will be held that Saturday. The first at 10
a.m., for graduates of the divisions of Business, Education and Human
Performance, and Fine Arts. A second ceremony, scheduled for 2 p.m., will recognize graduates from the
divisions of Languages and Literature, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences,
interdisciplinary studies and the Regents program.
Valedictorian of the spring 2012 class, Carrie Elizabeth
Honaker, of Ronceverte, will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree,
after majoring in Secondary Education.
According to Concord
University's registrar's office, a
total of 16 graduate students and 287 undergraduate students have applied for
graduation. This includes a total of 43 candidates from out-of-state and 10
international students. 10 of the graduating students are veterans.
For those who can not make it to Athens
for the ceremonies Saturday, Concord
is offering a live video stream on their website, http://www.concord.edu. Additionally,
officials with Concord University
will be filming the events and making DVDs available for $20 each. DVDs can be
ordered by calling (304) 384-5126.
Concord will also
recognize the classes of 1962 and 1987, for their 50th and 25th
anniversaries.
All ceremonies will take place in the main gymnasium of the
Leslie R and Ruby Webb
Carter Center.
A reception will be held following each ceremony, weather permitting, on the
front lawn of the Carter Center.
In the event of rain, the receptions will be moved to Gym II of the Carter
Center.
