The original architects of the '8th wonder of the world' reunited for a special walk across the New River Gorge Bridge on Saturday.

The builders were part of the original project that began more than 35 years ago.

On Saturday, they crossed the catwalk to take a look back at their work, and the history they helped shape.

"The bridge was built aesthetically pleasing. It fits this site perfectly. It reduced a 40 mile trip to about 40 seconds in the mid-90s. This economic impact today is felt," said Jimmy Wriston, Special Programs Manager for the Department of Transportation.

Wriston said it cost $40 million to build the bridge back in 1977. Today, he said it would cost $200 million to replace it.
